“Smoke” is our first collaboration and it began with Anna wondering what would happen if we smoked a few sheets of cotton rag paper while burning a pile of limbs, leaves, and pine straw. I began photographing the smoke while she pulled sheet after sheet of smoke-infused magic. We paired the smoked paper with my photographs into an installation that was first shown during the December 2016 Art Crawl in Monroe, Louisiana. We are still excited about creating more smoke work, finding time for it between our other paint/photography projects. It is fascinating for us to see the different characters of smoke that arise from the burning of different materials, all natural elements of our yard or the yards of our friends.
